    Version 1.0                                    For Wildcat! 5.xx
    ________________________________________________________________

    Overview
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Make The News is a newsletter generating programme that produces
    ANSI.BBS and HTML display files for your Wildcat! v5.x BBS/WINS.
    Both displays can be date/time stamped when you update them and
    both will be displayed with your current news first, or last, as
    you wish. Make The News uses the standard full-screen Wildcat!
    editor to edit your news, locally or remotely, from anywhere in
    the world! Using the Wildcat! editor, you can create the text
    for your newsletter updates offline. When you are ready, upload
    it into the editor when running Make The News. The HTML files
    are put into the directory you specify, while in Make The News,
    and can be edited as required, to link to your other HTML pages.
    It's a breeze!

    Suggested Installation Steps
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    1.
    Unzip the contents of the MTNews5 archive into a temp. directory

    2.
    Move MTNews5.wcx to your Wildcat! v5 home directory. This might
    be similar, for example, to this,

                     c:\wildcat_home_directory\

    3.
    Move the MTNews5.gif to whichever directory you are going to put
    your MTNews#.htm files. This is for callers using the graphical
    interface. If you do not choose to do this, the background for
    your newsletters will be displayed with a plain background.

    4.
    Use wcMenu to modify your Sysop Menu. Just add a suitable menu
    key to your Sysop Menu. This key will "Run a wcCode program".
    Next choose "MTNews5" from list of wcCode programmes to run. Do
    not forget to choose an "Access" level and give the Sysop access
    to MTNews5. Then save the changes to wcMenu and exit.

    Next . . . . . . . . .  *IMPORTANT*
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Make a backup of your old NEWSLTR.BBS display file, just in case
    you decide to return to the former setup. We hope you don't! It
    is located in your disp directory, as you defined in wcConfig.
    Usually it is to be found in c:\wc5\disp\.

    Now logon locally and start MTNews5. Initially you will have no
    MTNews#.txt files from which to generate the NEWSLTR.BBS file,
    which is displayed to your callers using the text interface. By
    selecting [C]reate from the main "Make The News" menu, you can
    start with 1 to 4 default files. These can be edited, using the
    Wildcat! v5 editor, or use your own favourite programme for this
    purpose. Personally, I recommend Textpad v2.1. This is a superb
    Shareware programme from Helios Software.

        It can be downloaded from,

           http://www.textpad.com

           and don't forget your preferred choice of spellchecker!

    Using this alternative method, to write your MTNews#.txt files,
    without using Wildcat! is not a problem. Just remember that text
    must be free of any TABs and @ codes. The length, including all
    spaces, numbers and characters, must not exceed a total of more
    than 74, for each line. Every line must be terminated with a
    carriage return. Any problems will generate an error within the
    programme and it will ask you to remedy this before it will make
    your NEWSLTR.BBS display file. Finally, ALL MTNews#.txt files
    MUST be in sequential order, up to a maximum of 4.

    NOTE: It is easier to use Make The News for making all changes.
    ~~~~~
    [D]eleting a newletter/s is acheived in one of three ways. There
    may be more!
    1. Use [U]date and select fewer MTNews#.txt files, from which to
    make up your NEWSLTR.BBS file.
    2. Use [C]reate to overwrite your old MTNews#.txt files with new
    files containing the default content "This newsletter has ....."
    3. Use [D]elete to remove any file.  The MTNews#.txt file/s left
    will be renumbered, sequentially, and saved with the day's date.
    Remember!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    It is *not* imperative to use more than one MTNews#.txt file for
    your newsletters.    Depending on your preferences, ALL the news
    may be contained in one file.     Suitable titles can be entered
    using the keyboard.  You can choose to add a title, derived from
    the date saved, as in "Issued on: 11/10/96".   Add this manually
    as you wish.
    HTML Output Path
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Make The News will ask if you would like to create HTML pages,to
    contain seperately, each of the texts from the MTNews#.txt files.
    MTNews1.htm  up to  MTNews4.htm, will be placed in the directory
    you select when asked, for example,
                     c:\wc5_home_dir\http\public\
    HTML Pages - what are these?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Hyper Text Markup Language is the language of the Internet.  Web
    browsers (Emissary, Netscape, Mosaic, etc.) can display text and
    images by using the HTM script Language.    Wildcat! v5 features
    a graphical interface that uses these HTML pages.  Just like the
    World Wide Web!  This programme will create basic HTML pages for
    use with your Wildcat! v5.xx BBS/WINS. Edit them as you require.
    Add the MTNews#.htm pages to your Wildcat! v5.xx home page
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    If you wish the MTNews#.htm pages made available for your users,
    then you need to create a link, for each file that you choose to
    display, from your Wildcat! v5.xx home page.  Choose [E]dit from
    the "Make The News" menu, select an MTNews#.htm file, from those
    that exist in the directory you select, and look for the line of
    text, at the end of the file,
                     <A HREF="/">Return to The_name_of_BBS</a>
    The following line of HTML code, for example, is how it may look
    after you have edited it,
        <A HREF="/public/Homepage.htm">Return to The_name_of_BBS</A>
    See your  Wildcat! v5.xx manual, if it hasn't fallen apart!, for
    further instructions, on creating links from your Wildcat! v5.xx
    graphical pages.  Good luck!
    NOTE: the MTNews#.txt files will be located in the Wildcat! data
    directory , as you defined in wcConfig.  This is usually similar
    to,
                     c:\wc5\data\
    Packing List
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    The  following files should be included in the original archive.
    FILE_ID.DIZ....This is the description file
    MTNews5.wcx....The main wcCode programme executable file.
    MTNews5.gif....Used by MTNews5's HTML display, if required.
    Readme.txt.....This interesting document!
    If any of these files are missing,  please do not distribute, or
    use this program.   Contact the  MSI HQ BBS at (001)805-873-2400
